Waverley paddle wheels
« on: May 13, 2008, 12:56:36 AM »
Before my son and I splashes out on £160 for Waverley Models paddle wheel set we were wondering how easy is it to put together? I think I remember someone on here saying its a bit difficult to get the the feathering wheels working?

I'm leaning towards scratchbuilding a rigid set or adapting the Graupner set, cost is one reason, durability is another as the feathering set seems a bit fragile or am I barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks
Daryl

Hi PD's....Daryl...I have found an old scan of Drawing PW-6 which is I believe the original Drawing for the wheel elevation & end elevation view's & table for PS Waverley.....I attempted to post it here but the scan is 0.98MB & exceeds the 0.5 MB PD file size posting limit

If you don't have this Drawing...send a PM with your direct e-mail address & I will forward a copy....regards Derek

Hi PD's....Ken...,.with modern technology you should have the snaps...........by now...sorry about the large file size

I think the issue with the Drawing PW-6...is that it was a turn of the Century Drawing & probably an early ammonia print.....then microfilmed 50 years later & so we have a huge background image

Larger files can be uploaded to the Downloads section - It will accept files up to 4Mb. The 0.5Mb limit on the forum is because most of the attachments are images and it's the server memory for processing the image that limits their size. The Download manager will not attempt to process a file even if it's an image.

Anything larger than 4Mb can be sent to me at eddy.matthews@paddleducks.co.uk (My mailbox is 50Mb on that account) and I'll post it onto the website for you....

I hope that clarifies things a little?

Regards
Eddy

Thank you Daryl for the copy of the drawings. (I have sent a personal email) They are certainly worth browsing.

If we can take you up on your offer, Eddy, I'm sure they would be of interest.I can reduce them, but it would loose something in the translation. there is an awful lot of detail on them. 7.9 megs worth to be precise.  ;D

I shall carry on with the route to building the feathering versions from Mike Mayhew as the engineering is really quite something. I appreciate they do not improve the models sailing abilities and may cause drag on the system, but they are a genuine working machine part which will look good, (if I can finish them to specifications).

All the best
Ken
