New Forum & Folders
« on: January 24, 2008, 04:19:49 PM »
Hi PD's - Eddy...when we view the folder listing..we access the individual folder ICON which is a triangle with a beam at an angle

When a new message arrives the ICON is dark , when we read the massage the ICON turns to a lighter grey/blue tone

There are many folders which have the dark blue ICON but have no new messages, but all of the postings have the word NEW attached

The other issue is that we cannot preview a message prior to posting.....no hurries just when ever

Last point...I cannot see a facility to send new messages to OUTLOOK Express...or am I missing something  ??? ::)

Derek

The new forum software doesn't know which messages you read on the old system Derek, so it assumes you haven't read any.... Until you click on a message to view it, it will be marked as "new"...... You can reset ALL message to "Read" by clicking on the "Mark all messages as read" link at the bottom right of the forum, just above the Paddleducks Info Center.

Yes you can, the "Preview" link is at the bottom of the "Reply" or "New topic" window when your writing a message... Or you can use Alt-P on your keyboard.

Derek

The email facility doesn't exist any more - The software wasn't being supported any more, and was becoming a real security issue! It was only used by about a dozen people, so wether we had changed software or stayed with the old setup, the email program was on borrowed time anyway....

Derek's question covered the next two which I had been saving to ask, and I have implemented the 'mark all as read' feature.

I had been relying on the list at the bottom for alerting me to what really was new; now the light/dark simple machine will achieve its goal.

There hasn't been much new this week: are most posters too daunted try?  I have no fresh news or research this week, but should have something after my boating week next week.

Hello chaps, you're quite correct Roderick the quiet spell is usually around about this time of year. Eddy and I have discussed this before and without being too melodramatic, the only suggestion we came up with was a mass e-mail shot to all of our listed members. This was abandoned because we felt it was not good to be too pushy about the hobby. Unlike some forums where there is at least one general mail shot once a week and I for one find this irritating. You sign up for them because you have a passing interest or need to be registered to view and the next thing is there is an incessant flood to your mailbox. The quiet spell can be attributed to most of the Northern hemisphere correspondents hibernating and those in the Southern hemisphere are out enjoying summer. Quite right too, sometimes I wish that we travel to the other half  of the world to escape the worst of the winter here.

cheers

Jim

That's reassuring Red.
Really, the fact that this is a lull makes this the best time to implement the new software: much less critical than at a peak, and Eddy can devote time to the many tasks because moderation time is down.  There is enough traffic to test the new features, and I am becoming quite confident with those which I use normally.
I picture all the northern-hemisphere modellers tucked in cosy workshops, cutting/shaping/gluing nonstop as the northern winter deters them from going out.  Perhaps they don't want to post progress until spring, as the winter project comes to fruition?
Yes, all northerners are welcome to enjoy an Australian summer.  The paddlesteamers do work all round, and are not restricted on days of total fireban; the diesel paddleboats also work all year round.  Hire a Liba Liba (sternwheel houseboat) and explore for yourself.  This weekend is a national long weekend: Australia Day is 26.1 (Saturday this year); Monday 28.1 is a public holiday.  PS Marion is out cruising, and Paddleducker James is rostered on as a trainee engineer.

Jim has it right, most of us up North are  hibernating (It must be the Polar Bear blood in my ancestry), as for working in the shop its too cold.
