French Steam Engine?????????
« on: December 24, 2007, 08:54:48 AM »
Hi PD's......just killing time @ the Whyalla Steel works :hehe ...but stumbled onto the following VAPORALP site

http://72.14.203.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://vaporalp.asso.free.fr/ALBUMS/2003_VAPORALP/2003vaporalp.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Ddaniel.brouard%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG

Just check out  :computer the 5th & 12th last snaps  :dunno ...appears to a twin cylinder V style xxx valve steam engine & manufactured principally from alloy & nickle or stainless steel ...including the tube work...which appears to range from 6 mm OD to 1 mm OD

It also has some other confounderd bits that ascape me.....a belt driven governer :?:... a single piston water makeup pump?

Have a peak if you get a chance..... & regards :bow for Christmas

Hi PD's ....the more I look :computer ...the more confused I become  :rant

1) could the white coloured cannister to the left of the top cylinder be a French varient of a Perma Lube? [disposible pressurised grease container]

2) the engine assembly appears to have two distinct 90 degree axis shafts

3) the steam admission appears to be located in the TEE line associated with the {{governer}} then to the lower cylinder area....... the spent steam exhaust directly from the upper cylinder cross TEE line

4) so if this is  :ohno  :sorry so what are the unlagged stainless steel tubes running from the lower axis of the engine to the visible cylinder head?

5) with all this......... possibly not piston valve engines but single acting?

6) and the second atwart ship machinary axis ...well :dunno ..... :goodnight

Hi PD's...... :sorry ...[dw EDITED 29/12]

Based upon the response & explanation from John 29/12...I have deleted most of the original post as it made as much sence as a :pig_flying  :music

Although I thought the 12 Bar texta line was on a GAZ gauge

Hi Derek,
Could you just post the site without the translation bit, it just goes thru pages of google translating this and that and the site never appears. :rant

Then maybe I can see what you are beating your gums about. :angel

Right Derek,
Managed to see what you are on about.

I can see why he has used stainless for his pipework, just look at the redline on the gauge - 12 bar (approx 175psi). Maybe he doesn't like picking pieces of copper or brass out of his face.

With regards to the big v-twin, that looks like a poppet valve, high speed,  single acting unit.

Belt drive from the crankshaft is standard for this type of governor.

Without seeing all of the boiler it might be a bit difficult to determine the use of the other bits, they might be for controlling the water and fuel flow plus ignition to what looks like a flash boiler, especially as it looks to be made of stainless, which I think was the standard type of boiler for a high speed poppet engine.

John
