As I'm new to this site, and i have noticed that the dates on the below written pieces are from 2007 July, are there any more recent updates on paddle steamer restoration on the Murray
Does anyone know how Andrew Cook boat the Daisy is progressing and where it is located exactly ?? i was interested in reading shorts snippets about the Excelsior in Mildura are there plans to re float and restore her or is it simply just talk ??
lastly, does anyone know anything about the Alpha also sunk at Mildura around 1963, i think she ended being used as a houseboat too for many years as well.
Hope to hear from someone soon.
many thanks, Ian Savage ...

Hi PD's ....& welcome Ian....your posting confirms you have been reading the archives
which is what they are designed for but
I have no knowledge on the vessels you mention but here are a few snaps taken from "Ships of the Inland Rivers" by Parsons

AFAIK there are no plans to lift
Excelsior
, and it may now be illegal to do do. River wrecks are covered by national marine law.
Even if raising is feasible: restoration may not be. I will search through the archive for one which was rescued from the water, but appears to be unrestorable: the would be so much new fabric that any reconstruction would be a replica.
You will find some recent news of PS
Success
being transferred from Mildura to Echuca for restoration to continue.
Advance news: PS
Pevensey
is to go up on the slip on Monday for survey renewal and any necessary maintenance.

PS Daisy has been moved to Lock 9, as Andrew Cook now works there, she has been totally reframed, just requires the hull to be re-planked.
Alpha can be seen when they pull out Mildura weir, just above Mildura Bridge, not far from PS Prince Alfred? By the way its getting pulled out in July!!

Thanks to all for your many quick replies they are greatly appreciated .
Giddy Michael thanks for all the info regarding the Alpha is she being raised to be restored as has she become a river hazard ! as some of the vessels laying on the bottom of the Murray do become this over a period of time i hear, like the Edwards yrs back in Echuca and now I'm hearing the Renmark is in Goolwa.
Do you or anyone have a recent pic of the Daisy to be posted here like to see how her restoration is coming along and any others pics that people might have of say the Success and the Canally.
many thanks again

My comment this morning was about PS
Banyulla
: see
www.paddleducks.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=2566.msg11614#msg11614
If you have the time, drift lazily upstream or downstream through the two major APAM threads. They make a long voyage.
Will you be at Wentworth next weekend?

Gday Michael
Many thanks for the pics! did u actually take this pic yaself or is it from some one else ?? its seems most of the Daisy hull had to be replaced comparing it to the original pics of here taken just after she had been taken out of the river and also the pics of her at the baldwins boatyard.
Does Andrew cook have a timeframe as to when he hopes to have the vessel back in the river ?? and i think u said also they are going to lift the Alpha out of the river in july ? what other news do you know regarding this vessel e.g. plans to restore her and so forth ??
many thanks again for all the news here

Hi all,
thought I might let you know I have some information on the PS Invincible and a few photographs of her and I think the barge Vega.
Let me know if you want to see them.
My grandfather used to own her.
Cheers

Information on the Invincible & photos would be great Stephen!
I was part of the group that was trying to restore her. Unfortunately she's gone for good now, but bits of her still exist.

Hello fellow history buffs,
My Grandfather bought the invincible and took it from Echuca to Goolwa - Captain Drage was at the helm, along with my grandfather, Walter Vincent Pendle and my father Kevin Mcintyre Pendle.
My mother was the cook for them from Echuca to Renmark and she got off there.
I have several photos I have gathered over the years and a story or three as you can well imagine.
There is a good photo of my mother with Wally and Captain Drage on this website along with a story you might find interesting.
http://www.murrayriver.com.au/stories/us-pendle-s-14/
It is an extract from the family memoirs I am writing.
Let me know if you want more photos.

Hi Excelsior,
do you mind giving me more information on the group who were trying to restore the Invincible?
Was this in Berri?
I am returning to Renmark in November and if there are any members of that group around i would like to meet them.
Are you in Sydney ?
If you wish you can write to me direct on stephenpendle63@gmail.com about any stories or the story regarding the plans and abandonment of restoration of the Invincible
regards
stephen
