"Oscar W" ..live Steam.. by Australian Tom Prior
« on: June 05, 2007, 04:52:45 PM »
Hi PD's .... & thanks Peter [Webster] for the video of above and  :bravo to 'Tom the Builder'  :hehe .... looks good, sounds good & engine steam discharge  :boom just above water line apart from being truely realistic.. appears visually to have more impact than via the chimney stack  :great

So do I see a twin osciliator atwart ship just under & near to deck level or is it a twin horizontal with cylinder heads facing FWD?

The speed of the engine also sounds >>>high? so is it geared?... I am sure many PD's   :gather would like a little more understanding ...if you could forward this on to Tom Prior would be appreciated especially if  a response was in the offering  :beer ... and again  :no1 build Tom

I sincerely apologise for the long delay in answering your post.
The steam outlet is in the correct position, just forward of the port paddlewheel on this boat.
The engine is a single cylinder slide valve type an
d single acting. It is very low powered but once under way really gets moving.
The cylinder heads you see under the deck are painted on a wall which prevents draughts on the boiler.
You are correct, the engine is high reving and geared to approx. 8 to 1 ratio.

Just when ever, some .JPG snaps of your steam plant and comments would not go astray.... however I am a little lost on....drafts affecting the boiler :?:  :?: ... I mean I could imagine this in :ohno  FROG hollow Scotland, but not in   :trophy OZ
