Box Hill Lake Naval Day [Vic., Australia] Sun.27.5.07
« on: May 25, 2007, 08:56:26 PM »
Surrey Park Model Boat Club is holding this annual event at Box Hill Lake (Surrey Park, Canterbury Rd, Box Hill South) on Sun.27.5.  There will be steam boats and RC boats of all shapes and sizes on show.  (Fri.25.5.07 Melbourne Herald Sun)

This is only 2 km from home, so I will be there for a while (although short of time preparing May RNV late after 2 weeks in Myanmar).  I will be concentrating on boats with paddle propulsion, or with double-acting steam engines with piston valves.

Will any of those whom I met at a western-suburbs lake recently be present?

See http://home.vicnet.net.au/~spmbc
I attended today, and stayed longer than I intended, discussing paddle boats (large and model), steam propulsion, stability...
This was naval day, so most of the boats were of navy originals.
There was one paddlesteamer there (electric power): PS Adelaide, about 1.2 m long.
I was told that only about 5% of the boats owned by members were at the site that day; members have about 15-20 paddlesteamers, covering all of the surviving older ones on Murray River.  At least one is steam powered (butane burner).
The council restricts boating to those powered by sail, electricity or steam: what else is left for model boats?

The NOISE of the gas boats is what usually gets them banned.
