Update to testing rules (UK) spring 2007

:D  :D  :news

Hi Pd's,

Good news...and Bad news.

The good news is that there has been some changes made to the boiler testing rules  (prev. new edition 2006).

These new rules have been forwarded to me and several others in the trade so I have great pleasure in passing them on to you all.

SEE ATTACHED PDF FILE.

I have included some additional explanatory notes which should, I hope, explain things as they effect you.

These new rules have been agreed and accepted by all parties listed in the original document I posted (2006 rules)....

BAD NEWS......not everyone has accepted the 2006 rules, let alone these new ones....
For those of you who's clubs/organizations are affiliated/or under the MPBA....these rules don't apply....you will still be forced into having your boilers tested every 2 years under their rules....
They were/are willing to accept boiler certificates issued by the bodies mentioned in the 2006 rules document....however, it remains to be seen exactly what they will do now that most small model boiler are EXEMPT.

A recent statement, on another forum, by a committee member of the MPBA, suggests that they will do nothing...since they appear to have agreed at their recent AGM to continue to apply their 20year old rules regardless....and not even consider adopting the 2006 changes, let alone these new ones.

This can not be good for the hobby...and is sadly, I feel, a little Victorian.

Additionally, there are also some insurance bodies who have not yet agreed to adopt the new rules (2006 included).....Vote with your feet on this score....

Anyway...I hope you agree with me that these new rules (by modern thinking people) are a great step forward.

Best Regards to all.

Sandy. :towel  :vacat  :terrific  :computer  :beer

Thanks for the update Sandy.... It does make you wonder what the heck is going on though when one governing body accepts the new rules but others insist on sticking with 20yr old stuff!!

I suppose it's typical of the way this country seems to be going right now :(

.... and yet another reason to ignore the MPBA! Our club insurer is one of the driving forces behind the new regulations. Unless you want to enter MPBA events I can't see any reason to join. They refuse to offer a subscription without insurance so that means you are paying twice. Can you imagine the field day the two insurers would have in the unfortunate event of you having a third party claim against you!

Actually that raises a valid point - It may be worthwhile checking with your insurer to see which rules they want you to use... Preferably before you have to make a claim!
