Paddleducks get together...
« on: August 12, 2006, 06:24:35 AM »
Okay, not really a show, just a friendly get together at Darlington & District MBC.....

Hans Freund (Scotfriend) is coming over from Switzerland, Walter Snowdon, Bob Golder, James Jack and myself from Paddleducks will be there, as well as some of the members of Darlington model boat club.

The get together is on sunday 20th August at our boat club which is located in a village called Middleton-St-George about 2 miles outside Darlington in the north east of England. We'll be there from about 8:30am till around 12 mid-day.

We hope to have quite a few paddlers on the water, weather permitting, as well as other scale boats of all types.  Anyone who would like to join us will be more than welcome - Of course it goes without saying that you should bring something to sail...

Anyone that is interested and would like further details, directions etc etc, please email me at admin@paddleducks.co.uk

My apologies for the short notice!

Our little get together at Darlington Model Boat Club.... Nothing formal, just a group of people who all love paddlers. Fortunately the weather was kind, although a little overcast it stayed fine and light winds made the morning a joy for sailing....

Thanks for the great pics Eddy. Would have been nice to be there. If there's a similar do in the future - and I'm fit - count me in!

Thanks Andrew,

We have tentatively discussed a yearly event for paddlers and steamboats, so I hope something will come of it.... For an extremely informal event that wasn't circulated to any other local clubs, and only mentioned on here at the last minute, I think we had a pretty good turnout.

I think everyone enjoyed it which is what it's all about - likeminded people all having a friendly get together.

So hopefully, by next year we'll arrange another one, and you'll be over your current problems and be able to attend. As always you'd be more than welcome!

Looks like a great time was had, I'd loved to have been there...looks a bit like the PSPS rallys they used to hold at Blackheath....
The 'Lady willow' looks great, I have to admit, I'm sometimes tempted to get a Glasgow just to make a few alterations to it, I definately prefer the fan-shape paddle vents, wooden wheelhouse (as opposed to the open one with canvas sheets) and location of the lifeboats on this version and have often wondered how it would look weathered, which most builders don't do...
Highlight for me would be seeing the Wingfield Castle model, from looking at the pics, my own partially completed Tattershall Castle looks to be fairly correct in shape (at least above the waterline), not too bad considering I didn't have any plans when I built the hull!

Hi everyone, I thoroughly enjoyed the  the day! Just a quick note on Lauries modified Glasgow., Lady Willow.  Like me, he thought the Graupner scale was all wrong, giving a tug far larger than it should be, so he increased the scale to 1:32nd,giving a full size length of 100feet, giving a much better appeerance. The weathering and general workaday clutter is incredible. Regards, Walter.
Blessed are the "cracked" -for they let in the light for the rest of us.

Looks like you all had a fantastic day! too bad I'm so far away!

Maybe an Australian Paddle Ducks meet has to be held...I'm in Echuca Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday if anyone wants to come say hi to me working on the Pev or up in the steam mill! I'd be glad to answer any questions and prove that the majority of facts in my articles I know off by heart!

If you can make it come say hi...I know it's a big ask though! lol

Maybe one day in the future us Australian's will be able to have a meet or maybe we'll all travel and meet overseas and have one big paddler day!

Great idea Eddy and the other members that took part in the paddler day, looking forward to many more photos from even more paddleducks meetings inb the future!

Now if that had been a model of a  paddle aircraft carrier, that would just have made that  shot.

Hi PD's

thank's a lot for this nice day, specially to Bob and John who let me sail their boats and also to Eddy, Walter, Jake and Laurie it was great to meet you at the DDMBC pond this day as well as some from the DDMBC.

Thank's Walter for the lovely present you gave to me.

I hope there will be an annual meeting in the future, to meet friends there is no distance to far for me

Kind regards Hans
