Not bad, looks like someone who liked towboats and decided to build a sternwheeler. For what they're asking already I can build a better one.
Take a look at this one that was built about nine miles from my house.

I assume boats like this are diesel powered?
Are there many of them about on the American waterways?

Yes there's many of them. There are some that still work pushing barges. Here are a few in my area.
