THE QUEEN IS DOWN
Members of the Medway Queen Preservation Society are reeling from the
shock news that the Steamer has suffered from the recent high tides and
gale-force winds. The Paddler has suffered structural damage and is
taking in water.
Brian Goodhew, spokesman for the Society, says that once again things
are looking bleak. We had hoped that the ship would be in a shipyard
for this winter, and it was unfair to ask the 82-year-old ship to
survive yet another winter.
Members have tackled this situation before, but will have to wait a few
weeks for the tides and weather to settle down before a full assessment
can be made.
We have to keep going, and our hopes are still on Lottery Funds, but
our claim will not be considered until June.
