Eddie - I thought that Sean was a Chief Engineer a few weeks ago, but now I see he has been demoted to 3rd Officer or does PD's rate ratings differently?

Well what can I say Derek? He came back onboard drunk so he was demoted.... :-)

No seriously, I cocked up the rankings a bit (hey even I get it wrong from time to time!) :oops   I've changed them so they should be more realistic now.

Drunk...me yeh thats quite likely being fifteen and all and not liking alcohol one bit lol.

And when I said that we didn't have a third officor I kinda ment it on paddle steamers out here....now I've sparked off  keg of gunpowder that shouldn't have been. I do belive that the crew oin steamers on the murray were more like Skipper, First mate, Engineer, Fireman, Deckhands...please correct me if I'm wrong...I know you want to!

hi Pd's - Sean & Eddie - I understand that each & every vessel will have differing crewing types & levels, but have summarized many as per the attachment - it is intended only to suggest differing levels not of skill, but of salary rates - Derek

Now then Derek Warner, you leave my distressed damsels out of this whole debate!

I wouldn't possibly lay the blame at Eddy's feet, broad shoulders or otherwise! Instead in the warm spirit of trans-Tasman friendship that so pervades our Antipodean two cultures, I choose to believe that my earlier elevated status as a purser and Derek's lowly status as a stoker was simply a reflection of the relative standing of our respective ancestors a coupla hundred yrs ago ...
a sort of "sins of the fathers" rating system if you like!

Crewing Levels & Ones Status in Life

In a very recent posting our NZ colleague was posturlating about his eleveated status as a purser and was denigrating the humble stokers role - but look & what do I see this afternoon? - Our WEBMASTER & moderator the modest EDDIE has switched the statistics role & Tony is now demoted down stairs to a boiler room as a STOKER - on ya Eddie  :terrific
