Has anyone ever seen this boat built or does anyone have an opinion one way or another ? This is along the idea of what I had in mind for my standoff replica of the Southern Belle. Thanks T.J. http://members.aol.com/polysail/HTML/showboat.htm

Hi TJ,
I have seen the plans before, if you do make one make sure the top will liftoff very easy incase if starts to sink

I don't think I would build it to plans. It seems to me that it's a bit over built and your right I think I'd like it a little easier to get out of if something should happen. There's a bunch of lads in England that belong to a model club similar to this one and go from small scale to all points in between right up to single seaters. They have built some battleships a sub and a sidewheeler. I was kinda hoping to find some fellows  with a similar interest or that were building something along these lines to share ideas with. Since I hope to build a scale replica (peddle power)of the Southern Belle. I was hoping this might be as good a place as any to start. You folk seem most ,friendly, knowlagable and willing to help. Hello TJ:
 Â
Take a look at this Website.  This is a tribute to the  fleet of large scale models built by the late Bill Wilkinson of the Southport  Scale Model Boat Club.  Bill lived in a small one bedrom apartment above a  store in which he built some of the largest model paddlers ever  built.
 Â
His Royal Navy Paddle Tug "Pert" was 15 LOA and  "Cracker" slighly smaller at 12' 8".  Both of them were sufficiently large  to permit one occupant/operator to climb inside.  Just before he passed  away he wrote to me telling me of plans he had for building a 21 foot  sidewheeler!
 Â
Do spend a little time going through the website as it  reflects the work of a modeler who was truly unique and sorely  missed.

Hello all, T.J. If you want some inspiration then please have a look at the work of William Atkin. A naval architects practice where they make dreamers dreams into practical reality. There is one plan in particular which lends itself to scaling down to super model sized build. They can be found at http://www.boat-links.com/Atkinco/Misc/LadyOfTheLake.html

Hope this helps

cheers

Jim

Haven't seen it built but I came across those plans as I was looking for plans for my real paddler (before I went with the premade hull!) It was very interesting and I liked the idea...however budget wouldn't let me and I didn't want to waste a bike.
