[SNIP]

I'd like to thank Bob for taking the time to tell us about his two
paper kits. It didn't take more than 30 seconds for me to email him
and ask him to send them to Canada. I started collecting Paper
paddlers about six months ago but my collection is still fairly
small. I don't have any serious intention of making the ones I've
collected as I'm sure my eyes would not cope with all the tiny
snipping. However, as you can see from the list below, there are
some very interesting European paddlers offered which can provide
additonal reference and colours for larger models. I have seen a
couple of these paper models made and they make exquisite little
display pieces, especially in a glass case.

In case anybody else is interested in this aspect of model paddlers,
here is a list of the one's I have been able to find. Do add to this
if you can, and if you have been making paper models, please write to
us about it.

Hi Paul, Heres a few more to add to the list of paper/card paddle
steamers.
Schreiber. Sidewheeler BERLIN 1/250 scale
Deutches Schiffartmuseum. sidewheeler KRONPRINZ WILHELM 1/100 scale
Padogogsher Lebrerverein. STADT ZURICH 1/188 scale.
Reiner Stettgerde. Rhine paddletug OSCAR HUBER. 1/100 scale
Wilhelmhaven. German navy despatch sidewheeler LORELEY. 1/250. (This
is available on CD rom and is full hulled and quite beamy. perfect
for a working model).

On that theme, paper models are much better than plans as all the
parts are marked ready to cut out. Scan the paper kit and print to
whatever size or scale you require. Cut out the scanned sheets and
tape or glue to wood or plastic card and cut out. upper works can be
built in preprinted card in colour and suitably waterproofed. also
the hull/decks etc can be bonded onto a wooden hull giving all the
(enlarged) details of the original card model, this means very little
painting is required. Believe me, the results are stunning. A good
friend of mine builds all his warship models this way and I think
Eddy will vouch for the fantastic results, and building time is
drasticaly cut. The kit of the Loreley on CD rom is perfect for this
as it is a full hull model of a nicely proportioned sidewheeler with
a very interesting history. (I think it was the first seagoing steam
vessel built fot the Kaisers navy). These kits are worth looking at
and the majority are under 10 euros. More to be added to the above
when I speek to my son, (a card model afficionado!). Cheers for now,
Walter.
