Hi folks, sorry for the long silence- school holidays and being a
grandad takes up a LOT of time! Now for the bit that makes my blood
boil. As Paul said, this dear old paddler, Medway Queen , has been
turned down yet again for lottery funding. Reasons given? THAT THE
HERITAGE VALUE OF THE SHIP WAS NOT GREAT ENOUGH TO JUSTIFY THE COST.
Balderdash. This famous old paddler has far more in its credit for
fame than the Royal Yacht Brittania, yet lottery money is poured into
her. Reason 2 THE BUISINESS PLAN WAS NOT ROBUST ENOUGH (this view
from anonymous consultants) AND THAT THE SOCIETY HAD FAILED TO
PRODUCE A MARKETING PLAN. This was after the Lottery Fund had
advised the society NOT TO SPEND FUNDS ON A MARKETING STUDY BEFORE I
REPEAT- BEFORE THE APPLICATION WAS SUBMITTED. What logic is there in
that? Perhaps if in any other application Medway Queen was described
as a leisure source for illegal immigrants or mobile changing rooms
for Sadlers Welles Ballet they might have some large amounts of cash
thrown at them as have some VERY dubious arts groups. I for one will
never buy another lottery ticket or support it in any way. Also a
word of note- this does not bode well for PS Ryde and John Amos.
Sorry about that, but I am VERY angry. Regads to all, Walter.
