Now that the Maid has completed her 50th year and another good year
of restoration, heres an update on work. She has just completed a
LLOYDS REGISTER inspection of her hull and the plating has been
reported as in good watertight condition with no water ingress. The
report also commented on the high quality and large amount of
restoration already carried out. - a real boost!! ! coming from
Lloyds. Another lounge has also been refurbished and brought into use
as an overspill for the busy cafe/bar. The shop and and exhibition
have also been moved into this area, now known as the Princess May
Lounge. 2004 will see an ongoing programme of restoration. The Lloyds
report is a terrific boost for any restoration funding. If you are in
Scotland this year could I ask you to call at Balloch and see this
lovely (large) paddler for yourself?. Access is free and you will
recieve a great welcome as I have found on several visits. I will
post photos of her on my next visit in a couple of months time. For a
full update could I reccomemd the new issue of Paddlewheels. The
magazine of the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society. Phew, that was a
long one (Sez he sitting with a big tumbler of Famous Grouse beside
him!) Cheers, Walter.
