Old Trafford steel decking - amidships

Hi Stuart,

I wonder if you can help me out. I'm trying to get a better feel for
the deck on Old Trafford and have a couple of questions about the
steel decking amidships.

Can you tell me whether the deck was make from plain steel plates or
if instead it had some kind of tread, e.g. chequer plate. Do you know
the dimensions of the plates?

Dear Tony

The midships decking on the original had a raised crosshatch pattern - whether this was in place when she was built I don't know, but it was certainly evident when she arrived at the National Maritime museum.

The deck had no VISIBLE seams - but must have been made from separate sections I guess.

Slaters Plasticard manufacture a crosshatch patterned sheet plastic ideal for replicating this sort of decking. It's available mail order from Squires of Bognor regis.
