Waverley

Hi all,

I thought that some of you might be interested in hearing a little
about our trip to see the Waverley... Walter Snowdon and I went up to
see her last wednesday.

She's currently moored at Anderston Quay in Glasgow, undergoing a bit
of a refit before the season gets underway. The guys are busy re-
varnishing all her woodwork, as well as other minor jobs. They are
doing a tremendous job, the newly varnished wood is superb! What a
shame I didn't take the garden furniture up with me... I'm sure they
could have made it look like new! :-)

The main reason for the trip was so that I could get some detail
photos for the model I plan to build later in the year. Sadly a lot
of her more valuable fittings were covered over to protect them, and
the decks are strewn with seats and other odds and ends so I couldn't
get all the photos I would have liked, but I did manage to get most
parts of the boat photographed.

All in all she's looking magnificent. Probably better than when she
was first built in fact! We hope to make arrangements to see her
again later in the year and book a trip onboard her. I should then
get the final few photos I need as reference.... I still have my
SR.N1 hovercraft and a 1920's motor yacht to finish before I start on
the Waverley, so I'm not in a mad panic to get the extra info - It
will probably be the end of the year before I really get started on
building the model, and in the meantime it allows me time to get the
various odds and ends that I need - deck fittings, materials to make
the decks and superstructure, lifeboats etc etc... the normal myriad
of bits that all models need to look right.

Whilst in Glasgow, we also took the opportunity to visit the
transport museum - Yet another attraction not to be missed by anyone
interested in any form of transport! Not the usual roped off
exhibits, but a real "old fashioned" museum where you can get right
up to the various exhibits! The Clyde Room is stuffed full of display
case models of every conceivable ship ever built on the Clyde, a real
modellers delight! But the museum also includes cars, motorcycles,
bicycles, trains, trams, horsedrawn carriages and LOTS more besides,
even a Mk XXII Spitfire!.
