Elevator?

I just received a set of plans for SKAGIT BELLE whom I remember. The plans
show an elevator for cargo from the main deck up (On the foredeck) I assume
they would move the cargo on to the elevator, raise the elevator to the level
of the dock, place a gangway (or whatever you call it) and then move the
cargo on to the dock. Remember, she was in Puget Sound and the tides there
are big.
Does anyone know for sure?
Also, Does anyone have pictures they would be willing to share?
