It's me, Christian, the Great Eastern buff.
Just wanted to say that Scott and I never ceased working on the GE research
and we came across some wonderful new Great Eastern photos. A collector of
GE stereo photographs kindly shared some very good photocopies. The
originals usually go for astronomical prices at eBay :-(
We will post the best ones as high quality single images on our Great
Eastern site very soon. I'm sure you all are going to love them.
We also came up with the accurate deckhouse arrangement - or a very close
approximation - for the "as built" version. It was quite a bit different
from the plans, especially after the aft bridge.
In a matter of days I will receive two solid resin copies of my scratch
built 1/350 Great Eastern hull. I already received the masts and yards in
turned brass which allows for scale sized cross sections. Photos will be
posted on our site. Fortunately we will not run out of available web space
in the near future.
We also came to conclusions regarding the funnels. Before the explosion of
#1 funnel during trials the first two funnels (paddle engine) were round or
almost round with twinsteam pipes and the aft three funnels (screw engine)
were compressed with single steam pipes. Everything is based upon photgraphs
dating from pre-launch and outfitting.

I have been quiet lately, but I have read some of the posts with I find most
interesting. Anyway, I am more a 1/350 scale ocean liner modeler. But I
wouldn't mind having one day a nice large scale R/C controlled paddle
wheeler. :-)
