Does the ActionKit Marine Motor Mixer (P40) allow the motors to be
runnning in reverse to each other, ie: STB forward while Port is
reverse ?<
I have just realised that I did not reply to your question regarding
ActionKit motor mixers. Mea culpa! here's a bit of blurb from Graig
Talbot at ActionKit:
The Marine Motor Mixer project uses a microcomputer. It will control
the differential speed of twin motor units in conjunction with the
steering/rudder position, that is to say, it will slow one motor and
speed up the other during a turn. It has a specialised ABS case
45.5mm x 32mm x 20mm with onboard plug in connectors for two outer
motors, one centre motor (if used) and the steering servo,
eliminating Y leads. Will steer when stationary.
Unfortunately I omitted to ask him whether or not the mixer puts one
motor into reverse on rudder hard over and he's on holiday at the
present. However he has said that he sells quite a few of these to UK
modellers for paddler applications. Perhaps any other listers who
have used or know of this unit may wish to comment.
My impression is that this is by and large a commercially made
equivalent to the motor mixer design that Paul Jordan has posted to
the group files.
Incidentally you'll be delighted to read that I've bought a couple of
old window winder motors which I will have a good play with before
starting the next big project. What an interesting approach - huge
torque, low drain, complete with worm drive reduction gearing, and
cheap as toast! Unfortunately they're a tad big for Reliant at 1:32
scale. (Note to self - build 1:24 next time!)
