Woman injured after ferry hits bridge

Courier Mail,  Australia
January 14, 2007 05:36pm

A FERRY has crashed into a bridge  on Perth's Swan River, injuring a woman.

The ferry, called Decoy, was  carrying about 200 people when it hit a
pylon under the Canning Bridge, south  of the city, at about 2.30pm (WDT)
today, police said.

A police  spokesman said the female passenger received spinal injuries
and was taken  away by ambulance although her injuries are not believed
to be  serious.

Fire and Emergency Service Association officers and water police  have
taken all the passengers off the ferry.

The Decoy was still stuck  under the bridge at 3.40pm (WDT) with a tug
boat trying to pull it  free.

A water pipe under the bridge was also damaged in the crash, police  say.

Ummmm....  I caught the ferry heading out there about just before that.  I can't believe how much fun I miss out on.

I was on the 2:00pm from Perth to Freo.

The posting came from a Yahoo! group  called cruiseferries, where a Japanese gentleman makes a lot of postings  relative to cruise ships and ferries
