I am trying to get information on the Paddle Steamer St Tudno she was built by Fairfield Shipbuilding & Engineering Co of Goven Glasgow in 1891. She was for the Liverpool  & North Wales Steamship Co. My grandfather was an engineer on her and I would like to build a scale model of her I also intend to build a scale working model of the engines, which were two cylinder compound diagonal steam engines. If anyone can send me any information on this ship or tell me where I can get information it would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to Paddleducks Alf....

I'm fairly sure there's a model of the PS St Tudno in the Clyde rooms at the Museum of Transport in Glasgow - Though I may be thinking of the later steam turbine vessel? Anyway, they would be worth contacting at:

http://www.glasgowmuseums.com/venue/index.cfm?venueid=7

One of the best sources for plans is the Mitchell Library, again in Glasgow. They can be a little slow at responding, but their archive is superb. You can find them at:

The Mitchell
North Street
Glasgow G3 7DN
Phone: 0141 287 2999
Fax: 0141 287 2815
Email: archives@csglasgow.org

Finally a link that shows a few small photos of the ship:

http://website.lineone.net/~tom_lee/sttudno2.htm

I hope that gets you started - Hopefully other members will come up with more sources, just give it a few days as some members only login once a week or so...

Regards
Eddy

Alf,

'St Tudno' appears on film in the DVD 'Paddle Steamer Memories'

Should this be of any help the DVD is can be purchased from the Kingswear Castle preservation society.

Tony.
