Have a look at this beauty, actually a very serious competitor for the title as eldest running paddler. The homepage is entirely danish.  
But a few remarks, build 1861 at B&W Copenhagen  25,7m long, 3,8m wide draught 1,7m.  
Engine (the  original) twin cyl. osc. bore 26 cm stroke 42 cm pressure 8 atm. 10 hp / 8 knots. Running on the third, still coal fired boiler build to the original design.
She was build to sail in the very  lake, which still carry her, the name "Hjejlen" means "Golden Plover"  (a bird)

I have a nice file (complete model linedrawing) in tiff format 1:33 & 1:25 suitable for mail exchange.

She is the oldest in original  condition,, the only changes having been the addition of a canopy over the upper  deck, and the moving of the steering from tiller steering at the stern to the  normal amidships position.
The two older operating paddle steamers, SKIBLADNER of 1856  and TUDOR VLADIMIRESCU of 1854, have both been substantially altered during  their lives, SKIBLADNER was originally two-funnelled and TUDOR VLADIMIRESCU was  originally a tug with no passenger accommodation

Hi folks, Billings kits of Denmark did a rather nice all wood plank on frame kit of the Hjelan some years ago. About 36 inches long and a good accurate model (including a dummy engine). Made a good working model if you replaced some of the solid brass fittings to save top-weight. Kits occasionaly appeer on ebay, there were about 5 or 6 last year. Regards to all, Walter.

i keep now two kits of the Hjejlen one is complete and new, this one i will keep for myself, the other one is also complete but the hull is build with a major mistake  :cry:  the bow is to thick and round not suitable for such a small paddler this one i will sell and i have also one set of the solid brass fittings maybe also for sale. If one of you are interested to buy, feel free and ask.......

I bought a model of this boat in the 50s.   It was an import.  It was plank on hull kit but the deck and deck structure  wood was very poor quality thin, stamped out Luan plywood.  If I remember correctly the hull was about two feet long.  It did not have a canopy.  The seating arrangement was a lot different than show in pictures above.

I built the hull and put a lot of work into finishing it well. It had such  beautiful lines.   Some what before fiber glass for models became popular I covered it will silk and then doped  and sanded it smooth. Finished out with sanded and rubbed dope.  The paddle wheels were good quality, clock work like quality, feathering wheels.  They had to be assembled.  I was going to use the bad wood parts as patterns and make them from hard wood but a guy cam along and wanted it more than I did.  I ended up selling it, unfinished, for $100.00, a lot for a model in 1956.
