history

The notice of the first class wheeled ESPLORATORE (set with the name of VENEZIA and changed ESPLORATORE upon delivery to the Royal Italian Navy) was built in the shipyards Wingram London.
Set along with its twin, the MESSAGGIERE, July 5, 1852, was launched in February of the following year and delivered to the Royal Italian Navy May 19, 1863 (the MESSAGGIERE was delivered in August of that year).
Warnings Class "ESPLORATORE" were the last built with wooden hull and propulsion wheel. From this point of view were not certain constructions of cutting edge for their age, but the goodness of their motor apparatus, manufactured by Penn & Sonn and consists of a machine alternative to two oscillating cylinders of the nominal power of 350 Hp and 1070 Hp actual combined with the good design of the hull, very long and starry enabled them to reach speeds of respect: the 16 nodes theMESSAGGIERE and 17  the ESPLORATORE. With a budget of 310 tons of coal, the two ships could sail for 115 hours at full speed, about 1800 miles! Both were good cars of Carriers, simple and safe operation, that when the ship was radiated to the deterioration of the wooden hull, it was decided to build a new purpose to use them again. Thus, in 1885, on the same floors of the old Carriers, revised by the inspector of Civil Engineering Naval Edward Masdea, built a new ship, more accurately called MESSENGER, iron, with more modern weapons even if they are, definitely surpassed as the type, combat effectiveness of nothing and, what's more, to wheels. His working life was, in fact, already short because since 1889 no other duties than those held by the department and in 1907 the ship was radiated.
The armament ESPLORATORE and MESSAGGIERE consisted of two iron cannons circles, stripes, 12 cm, then replaced by two guns 7.5cm bronze stripes, breech, and two machine guns.

The crew consisted of 1 officer and non-commissioned officers and 112 municipalities.
