File 683 in the Yahoo photo gallery
« on: January 31, 2008, 03:13:19 AM »
Hello everyone,

Eddie, in the old yahoo photo gallery there is a picture (file 683) of some Pacific Coast paddlewheelers. The one in the middle and the one on the right are both very similar to the Whitehorse which I've been wanting to build for several years now but have been unable to get much info on her. What is the story behind the photo? Who built the models? Where are they located? These models might give me a step in the right direction in fulfilling my dream.

Thanks, Randy the Dinosaur Soup Man

Hi Randy.... The boat on the right is the Kaslo and the one in the middle is the International. The Kaslo
was built at Mirror Lake and launched on Sept.17 1900 in the Kootenay Lake BC and the
International was used on that lake.

                                   Hope this helps you
                                                      Terry ;D

Hello Terry,

Thanks for that information. My next question is; are they your builds? If so, where did you get plans for them? If not, where did you see/photograph them? The International looks very close in overall size to the Whitehorse but the Whitehorse has a deck light aft of the upper cabin much like the model on the left. Well I guess I'll do a google on the Kaslo and International of Kootenay Lake B.C.

Thank you again,
Randy the Dinosaur Soup Man

Randy,
For Pacific Coast paddlers plans contact Edw. K. Neubauer,  11120 SE Maplehurst,  Milwauki, Or. 97222.  I don't have a phone for him but he has built many paddlers and has plans, at least elevation and plan sets. I think if you drop him a line he will send you a list of his plans.  I have several of them myself.

Bill Hudson,

    Randy,
I did not build any of these yet but the International was launched on July7,1896 at Mirror lake and was built by the
IN&T Co. The Kaslo was built by KR&N and the hulls on both boats are wood . Mirror Lake is a small town on the Kootnay
lake. A illustrated book of the Canadian Pacific Railway"s paddle wheelers and tugs is available. The book is called
Sternwheelers and Steam Tugs by Robert D. Turner. By the way the SS Moyie in the town of Kaslo is the olds boat of
that type in the world and is totally restored. There is another paddlewheeler on the Okanagan Lake in BC that is one of
3 bigest paddlewheelers use in western Canada. IT is displayed at PENTICTON and called the SS Sicamous of Vancouver.

If you need any more info on other boats in that area let me know?

                                                             Terry
