Inspiring visit at Rhine Museum, Koblenz

Spankbucket:
OK Thomas, thanks for clarifying my flag confusion!

I will go and do some research on Prussian/German monitors of the period. I was already familiar with the Austrian Danube monitors. But I don't want to go off topic again!

This says they were post German war. Very short lived as scrapped in the 1880's.

Thanks for the nice pictures Thomas.

I knew there was a railroad museum in Koblenz, but didn't know there is a marine museum too. Will have to put that on the list for one of the next visits.

Very interesting the tug with the lateral pulleys. I once read that there was a section of the Rhine where a steel cable was laid on the river bottom. The middle pulley was motorized and the tugs engaged to the cable and pulled themself up-stream.
