Last time I visited Lachie was doing more work on the paddleboxes. While waiting for glue to set etc., he has started work on a part built Resolve class tug kit he acquired many years ago. He has decided to model the Rollicker, built by his favourite shipyard Ferguson, and is building up a raised forecastle using fibreglass.

Visited Lachie this afternoon. He was in his garage beavering away on Kempton. How he stands the cold I don't know.

Hull has been sprayed.

Pictures show installation of paddle wheels. Transmission is plastic chain drive. Final photograph shows motor laid loosely in place. It will be secured to the hull using his infamous epoxy and string method.

Beautiful day on Sunday and Lachie decided to try Kempton on Loch Lomond. Some problems. Paddle shaft slipping, loose grubscrew. More seriously the paddle boxes are too low in the water.

Not being one to do things by half, the bold Lachie has decided to split the hull along the lower waterline, hold the two parts apart by wood spacers, lithoplate around the gap and then fibreglass the inside! Hopefuly I will get pictures of the operation.

The weather in Scotland has been appalling recently and Lachie has been working in the house on a model of the Admiralty tug Rollicker.

Before this he cut the hull around or near the waterline on the Kempton, spaced the halves apart and fibreglassed the gap. Unfortunately I don't have pictures of this surgery. Hopefully when the weather improves new flotation trials will be a success and he will press on to finish the model.

Lachie diverted to building the Admiralty tug Rollicker but is back on to Kempton now.

He now has a tablet computer so I'm not sure if he would prefer to do his own PR now. I'll check and, either way, get some info posted.

He is also very busy speaking to schools in the run up to the Commonwealth Games.

Short video of trials with rebuilt hull back in April. Lachie has done a lot of work to the model since.

Great video, Andy.

Not just pond trials but loch trials  :)

Will we see Kempton at the warship weekend and Paddler day?

All the best
Sandy

P.S. Will you and/or Lachie be at the tug towing day tomorrow (8th)? If so, see you there.

I'm sure Lachie has the Warship weekend in the back of his mind as he beavers away. I'm trying to get him to contribute directly to forums with his new tablet, so perhaps a reply to your post would be the ideal debut. We can but hope.

Don't think Lachie will be at Richmond tomorrow as he has one of his many public engagements tomorrow. The life of a sporting celebrity is a hectic one, especially with the Commonwealth Games imminent. If I don't make it myself, best wishes to the club for the Tug event.

Some up to date pics of Kempton soon I hope.
