Well I finally got it out of lay a way after 3 months and all I can say is wow.Some of the wood is all right but it could be better some of it is way worped but all the plans are great and crisply printed.Im veary happy with the kit.   Wish me the best of luck.

hey Eddy, how can I getrid of all of the bowing in the wood Iv tride weights over the night but still its worped should I just replace all of it?

The two Dumas kits that I've built both had aweful wood in them, I just used them as templates to make new parts from some decent timber/plywood etc...

Eddy can you email me some more picks of your cq, like the front railing and stairs?

Just a small 25w electronics soldering iron - A bit of practice and it's fairly easy to do, a higher wattage iron only creates too much heat and the thing falls apart as you solder the next piece....

EDDY I don't know the size of the rails, because I am not familiar with to model. Could you reccomend the kind of heat sinks he could use?

From memory the rails are 1/16" brass wire - I normally just use bulldog clips as heat sinks...

Is the model around 1:48 scale? If so I usually use .020 brass rod to build my railing.

Hi there.  
A good alternative for handrails, which is much stronger than brass wire, is the copper covered steel welding wire that is used in MIG welding. Available in rolls from the likes of Machine Mart. A 0.8kg packet of 0.6mm wire (closest to 0.020”) costs just under GBP4. They also do 0.8mm (same price) if you want a little extra strength. Probably enough to do 100 boats or more!! It is very easy to solder and withstands the knocks of life at the pond very well.  It holds the paint better than most brass provided that you make 100% sure that the ALL flux has been cleaned off first.

yes its 1.48 scale,and I think .020 would be more scale but 1/16 would be e.zer to work with maybe?The mig welding rod sounds good to.

hey Eddy do you think 3/32''or 3mm. sq. tubing would look right appossed to the bamboo on the side railing?the real cq has sq. rail as seen here
