Hello Ducks -- It made my day to find this egroup!
I am pleased to have found you, via a circuitious route (like a
river!) to get here. Have been a fan of paddleboats for years and
finally took the plunge with Artesania's King of the Misssissippi
kit, got on sale at a very attractive price (for a tinkering
cheapskate!). I am modeler, G scale railroader, scratch builder, and
electronics engineer and putterer. I have 4 acres, with a small pond
I had redug and got to lookin' at that water, thinkin' boy, that
needs a steamboat on it! So I started doing research about a year ago
and 'cuz I live in Gold Rush country Ebayed a copy of "Paddlewheel
Days", about the Bay and River steamboats of California's inland
waterways. Other than PaddleWheel Days and the excellent website by
the Bay and Delta organization, anyone know of any other resources
for paddlewheeler research I may have missed? I want to electrify my
King for Radio control. Looks like I found the right bunch of
oddballs to hang out with! <grin> -- Tom Detweiler, Grass Valley CA

Tom, one more thing - take a look at the average height of structures in Old Sac (or just go down Grass Valley's main street) and you'll get an idea of the scale. The Delta King, in contrast, may not be so helpful, as its later and more in the style of marine architecture, common on the Sacramento and far western rivers. The big Mississippi and Ohio River boats in contrast were giant in their porportions and girth, a sort of tinderbox wahoo.

How's the NCNG mogul doing? Is it a good guess you have a Bachmann version?
