Paul, thanks for the correction. I bought my SIRIUS kit in 1972 from
a hobby shop that a friend of mine owns. However I did not build it
until 1992 when I retired. My kit included the fittings kit. In my
opinion with out the fitting kit I don't know how anybody could build
a suitable model. Rich states that his kit has no bulkheads, my kit
had bulkheads (not too many mind you). What Rich should do is take
jpg pics of what is in his kit and post it and we can go from there.
My model is the same model that is in your mystery photo you mention.
I am sorry I did not have a digital camera at the build time in fact
I didn't even have a working 35mm. The mystery photos were taken with
a 35mm I borrowed from Daughter-in-law and then scaned when I got my
scanner. I now have a digital so the latest pics on the site were
taken with the digital. I would be happy to discuss what I remember
from the build if any members are interested. I would also like to
find somebody else over history that actually built the kit. Greg &
Grimm

Excellent posting, thank you, Greg. I'm releived to have finally
solved the conundrum of our "Mystery paddler". However..you didn't
tell us how you did the railings on your model..they look very neat.

Paul are you asking about the stern top gallant railing or are you
talking about the catwalk railings between the paddle wheel boxes
which travel above the steam engine areas? Greg & Grimm

Paul answers to smoe of your questions. No I do not have glass/plexi
cases for my models can't afford them. The hand rail stantions are
made from Japanese bamboo toothpicks I picked up at a large Japanese
market in Chicago. One end of the toothpicks is a nice turning. I
will tell you the ornate gold filigree came with the fitting kit. It
was cast in the hardest metal I have ever worked with. I found it
harder to grind than an exhaust manifold on a car. The parts were
3/16 thick far too thick for any usage and I would not have wanted to
try to inset them. Had to grind off the back side to get them to a
realistic thickness. Don't have a clue what the model companys
intentions were. There is NOTHING any where in the funny plans
pictures that show what the stern looked like.
A book I used as a little bit of reference was "TRANSATLANTIC PADDLE
STEAMERS" by H.Philip Spratt. On plate V inbetween pages 32/33 is a
photo of a model of SIRIUS but no clue as to who, what, where the model
is/was. The side decorations are different than the Steingraeber
model, so not having more pics of that model I stuck with Stein's
fittings kit parts. Greg & Grimm (more to come)
