Blockade runner "Condor"

Hi there.
I am looking for a picture, (one lives in hope!!) of the blockade runner
CONDOR. She made the run across the Atlantic in 1864 under the command of a
Capt Hewitt. Unfortunately she did not last long! I know her dimensions, but
that is about all.
Even if there is no picture of her, maybe someone could suggest the name of
a sister ship or one that may have looked very similar. Did she have the
distinctive turtle deck up forward, as many did?
Any leads gratefully received.

You are in luck

in the book Civil war navies,
by Paul Silverstone on page 196 ther is a scketch of a
ship called the flamingo. This is one of four sister
ships built in Glasgow. one of the siste ships was the
Condor.

Hi David

What little I know is that Condor was built by Randolf Elder & Co of Govan
in 1863 for the Confederacy. There is an interesting site at

where they are placing a model of the sunken ship in an aquarium - don't
know whether thay have guesstimated what she looked like or whether they had
drawings - might be worth a contact though??

further to my last post - it would appear that Elders built 5 Blockade
runners for the Confederacy, all in 1863. They were:
Ptarmigan
Flamingo
Falco
Evelyn
and Condor
