Hi there you lot,
I've been a member of this group since PJ started it,
and although I don't post much I "lurk" in the background, however I
have been researching a ship called "HMS Pioneer" for some time, and
was getting no-where fast, Paul got co-opted into this effort, and
said to me "if she was a Navy ship details must have beenrendered to
the Admiralty in London, (if only for supply and replacements)and
would have passed this info on to the Museum in due course" Ah Ha I
thought I'll have to try that, and sent an E-mail to the search
section of the Museum, beleive me I was astounded to receive (within
24 hrs) an E-mail from the curator, historic photographs and ship
plans,(Jeremy Michell) to say that "If this was the correct vessel,
their reference books seem to suggest that this was the only gun-boat
in Australian waters at that time bearing that name, if tis proves to
be the ship you are researching let me know and I will send you a pro
forma with a list of the plans available on it." "WOW" how's that
for service? Go to it Paddlers you know where to get the "good oil"
now. all the best ...............Dai Powell
