Paddle steamer "Hale" more questions
« on: February 07, 2020, 07:13:25 PM »
Dear all,

I'm almost finished with my drawings of "Hale". But I do still encounter questions.
Any idea what this can be ?? A lamp or ?
There is only this side view.

I think any form of Lamp is unlikely, possibly some form of Ceremonial attachment? ......Derek

Could it be a shelf with a bucket on it? The half circle being the handle.

Maybe a binnacle with a glass dome or a monitoring point for the water/steam engine levels?

probably too high up to be those as a ladder would be needed to see in to it!

Difficult point...

A compass? To be seen from the upper deck?

What is the part below? A tank?

Maybe a carbide system for the old lightig system? On German paddlers I know similar parts like this part below for lighting.

For a water control I think, it was too high on the wall.

Andy....from a previous disjointed thread.... :nono...the tanks are listed each as 100 gallon F/W which would be assumed as for drinking and not toilet flushing

I understand acetylene gas lamps [by-product of Carbide fuel plant] were used in early Australian Paddlers, and some with dire consequences of shipboard fire  :ranting ...however I cannot find any visual references to such plant

This domed component is certainly a little elusive in understanding

Ilhan.......having disjointed threads requires looking backwards to find other postings via different threads

Grouping all of your research under one main thread really helps

Thank you very much for your responses. Derek you are right to group the threads in one thread. You have been and still you are very  helpful in this process.
The responses here always inspire me discovering the details and decide.
I started to think that this can be a bucket(s) on the shelf as Barry said. There are F.W. tanks underneath.

Ilhan

I hope I am going to finish the drawings and share them soon.
