Hi Everyone

My name is Robert Lauder and I live in Geelong, Victoria Australia.  For the last 40 ish years I have been building and flying rc planes. In the last year a passion for boats has emerged. So far I have built the aeronaut Diva and the Dumas triple cockpit barrelback. I have been wondering what to build next and the idea of a steam powered paddleboat appeals to me. I know very little about paddle wheelers so was rather lucky to have found this site. I will be looking through the forums to see what is available and how things are done, there are a lot of talented people out there and I hope to be able to learn from them and in turn pass on some of that knowledge to others.

Welcome Robert are you familiar with the Geelong model boat club?

http://geelongmodelboatclub.com/

Enjoy what we have to offer and ask any questions you have you'll find more than one member will answer them.

I'm in Wendouree and would love to get to the ponds at the University to sail with them.

Damien.

Hi Damien
I have been sailing with the Geelong guys for the last 12 months, there are some very nice boats. They meet on the 1st and 3rd sundays of the month. Visitors are always welcomed. Is there a boat club in Wendouree and if so where do they meet?

Thanks Rob

Only 2 modellers in Ballarat that I know of one is me the other is Barry Nunn and he sails at Geelong.
Lake Wendouree and all the smaller ponds are clogged with weed and useless for anything but small keel less sail boats and sculling boat racing I no longer drive due to double vision  caused by radiation to brain post large tumour removal several years ago Barry said he'd pick me up and take me when weather was better he never called.

Welcome Robert, as Derek says there are plenty of guys here to give advice and suggestions. I am building a model steam launch, the engine and boiler are all but finished and I am now working on the hull.

One of our other members sails his boat at Cairnlea (Deer Park).  Box Hill club is so large that it can run thematic days, in the former Surrey Dive (near the Elgar Rd & Canterbury Rd intersection).

See http://www.paddleducks.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=4965.msg24593#msg24593.
This is an informal group; it is there most Sundays.
I have seen a post from Peter Webster for a while, but you may be able to reach him via pm.

A message from a different thread.
I already know Peter Webster who sails at Cairnlea in Melbourne's West. I sometimes sail at his lake with mates from Broadmeadows Model Boat Group (http://home.vicnet.net.au/~bmbg/). He has several electric paddlers and I see he is starting to dabble with steam...

Thanks for the information, I will try to get to Cairnlea this weekend and if these isn't anyone there I will give Broadmeadows a look. It should be an easy run on the ring road
