Hello paddlers I just joined today,I am retired and live in south Gloucestershire.
I built a few model boats in the 70s (fairey huntsman and a couple of racing boats.
Moved on to rc planes then autogyros, but the old eyes are not so sharp now and planes seem to have a habit of falling out of the sky.
As I live a mile from a 16 mile long shipping canal I have gone back to boats,I am a present half way through building a scratch built EP powered commuter launch, but my next project is to be a paddler. Maid of the loch is my first choice and I have just purchased a copy of the 2010 Model Boats Magazine featuring plan review of the Maid (ebay).
Thats all for now but I will try to post progress reports when I start the build.
regards to all

Hi I just thought I would send a post to you as I am a Newbie too. I thoght I would let you know about a Director Class Paddle Tug which I obtained second hand some years ago. The paddles did not run properly as the builder had installed some very noisy meccano cogs which also didnt work at all. Due to the space inside the model the beam I decided it was best to put in a geared motor with a toothed belt on plastic gears running with one shaft.  A friend of mine installed this for me. This seemed to work well but when I took it to the lake it was unusable as the belt kept slipping under load. I shelved the project. Just recently however last year I managed to obtain two geared motors the right size just to fit for one with each paddle. These have now been installed and I am now waiting for a good day to test it out. What are you planning for your paddle wheel propulsion system? Kind Regards Colin.

Under construction is fine using the ships name as the title.
