Hello, all; I'm new member brunelrussell, which is an obvious tipoff as to my primary interest, the steamship Great Eastern. I presently have finished the basic hull on a 1/8th inch to the foot model, which indicates my degree of obsession! I've had this condition since high school (back in the late Cretaceous) when the Revell model came out. Through the years I've gathered information, slowly at first but much faster since the internet came out. Coming across the 'Modeling the Great Eastern' site convinced me to take the plunge and begin. I notice Mr. Schonberger was a former correspondent on this site, but almost a decade ago; I had some questions for him; too late, I guess.
I have a small file briefcase full of photocopies and detail drawings (I'm a fair-to-middling draftsman) and another with modeling materials, photo sources and so on.
So anywho, here I is. I would love to correspond with any other G.E. freaks out there; in fact, I have some questions while I'm on: does anyone have the complete spar dimensions? Also, the 'Modeling' site had a photo of a surviving anchor of the ship, and like an idiot I didn't jot down its location; I'd like to cajole, bribe or threaten someone to get some basic dimensions off it.
That's enough for now; happy to be aboard.
