Just Saying Hi
« on: March 14, 2015, 08:15:57 PM »
Like most of you I have been modelling for years and get a lot of enjoyment out of it.  Now retired I find I do more drawing than actual modelling.  I have found that researching and then producing a detailed set of accurate drawings of a vessel very satisfying and rewarding.  Like producing a quality model, drawings can also take time to create and can be just as challenging.  I guess it must come from very early days and memories of sitting on the riverbank as a kid watching the ships going up toward the docks, or leaving for new cargo.  I served as an apprentice fitter and turner in later years and worked on some of those ships.  The sounds and smells of them never leave you.  At the moment I have developed a passion for steam and would like to do some work here.   I think SNARK 1882 would be a good start and have obtained copies of her original drawings.      Research of her is not so easy as little is available.  SKIRMISHER 1884 is another.   However, it is early days yet and you never know were it will come from.  Anyway, that's something of me but if you want to know more please feel free to ask.

Regards,
John

Skirmisher--the cruiser?
have you seen Friedman's British Cruisers of the Victorian Period. Lots of good drawings--decks and sides--no body plans and lots of photos. seems to me I saw a GRP kit from UK and something else but can't quite put a finger on it.

No, I was referring to the tender SKIRMISHER 1884 of Liverpool docks.  Perhaps not strictly relevant to Paddleducks but a beautiful vessel none the less.  Her details are attached for those interested.  The other vessel I mentioned was the SNARK 1882.  Again I am not sure if she is strictly relevant to Paddleducks but she is also a very elegant vessel, and again her details are attached.

John
