Hi everyone...

I've read some paddleducks forum posts for a few years, and I am familiar with some forum members from other sites. I'm a member of other machining and model building forums, and can appreciate a site dedicated to model engines only, but I prefer the whole package, engines deserve to be part of a larger project.

I really love boats of all kinds, but especially steam driven ones. I used to be an avid boater and sailor, although the boat I sailed has now left the family... so model boats provide my main boating fix now. I live in a province with a history of steamship navigation as one of the major modes of transportation, although more often than not the screw driven variety. I like to build working models to educate people on that history. I enjoy the research that goes along with my model building process.

I finally have the equipment to tackle just about any modelling project including larger steam powered models including some paddlewheelers, so I'm into the research phase for a sidewheeler project.

A little more about myself, I have a background in science and technology, and I work as a building science consultant, HVAC Designer, and Adult Educator. I've got eclectic interests the oldest of which are model building and photography. I gained an interest in machining due to my interest in model building (engines, ships and trains). I also enjoy designing and building tools, machines and fixtures which I can use for model making especially tools and machines I cannot otherwise obtain.

I'm also very experienced photographer, and active in Kite Aerial Photography having built my first camera rig this past year. I'm working on designing a larger KAP rig to carry a DSLR aloft as well. I'm also interested in printmaking and have designed a small etching press which I am waiting to start construction of as soon as our new lathe has been set up.

I share a shop with my brother, who was a machinist for many years. We have a Craftex 129N milling/drilling machine, a Craftex CT041 12x37 lathe which is the same as the grizzly 9249, a few drill presses, a hydraulic press, engine hoist, multiple compressors and the usual assortment of odds and ends.
