introduce yourself
« on: November 03, 2014, 10:15:18 PM »
Good morning everyone, my name is andrea, are a model-ship Italian and I'm currently building a training ship of the Italian Navy named Amerigo Vespucci. I know it has nothing to do with your forum but since the next model that will build a tug with all-wheel paddle called Forceful, I wanted to gain experience through your forum where I saw really good and experienced modelers in this activity.
Sorry for my english, not very good, so I help with a translator if I wrote something wrong please forgive me.
Greetings to all
Andrea

Hi Andrea

You're on a lovely ship....has it ever been up to the NE for the British Tall Ships Race??

Do you have any info on the paddlers in the Italian Navy and in particular those at the battle of Lissa?

I look forward to seeing your new build on here and good luck with it.

Ciao.......Bernie

Sorry Andrea I misread your posting.

Let me rephrase my response to 'Its a lovely ship you are building' and, of course, I wouldn't expect to see her in the sea near me!!!!

Hello Bernie
Vespucci participated several times to tall ships, the last time it was to celebrate the victory of Trafalgar.
For the Battle of Lissa if you tell me what ship you are interested I can do some research

Hi Andrea

According to Wikipedia these ships were in the second Italian squadron:
Giglio (ex-Tuscan sloop, launched 1846, 246t, 2 SB of unknown type)
Cristoforo Colombo (gunboat, 4-30pdr SB)
Gottemolo (as Cristoforo Colombo)
Unknown (as Cristoforo Colombo)
Esploratore (sidewheel dispatch vessel, launched 1863, 981t, 2-30pdr SB, 17 knots)
Messaggere (launched 1863, as Esploratore)

Ii is clear that only the last two were paddlers But there may have been at least one more inherited from the old Bourbon navy???

I may have a photo or two somewhere in my archive but no exhaustive info.

I think they are probably Glasgow built.

Any help you can give would be gratefully received.

In the meantime I'd be keen to see something of your 'Vespucci'...maybe you could put some pictures in the 'Other Builds' section.

Thanks in advance

Cheers...Bernie

Thans Andrea

As Damien says; a very nice site.

Just what I was looking for including the builder (Wigrams of London).

I might just buy a copy of this plan for a new project.

Cheers...Bernie

Hi Bernie
At another opportunity you asked for some stuff about the "Ferdinand Max". Not sure, if you got the links, here they come again
http://battleships.spb.ru/Conway/Austria/Erz_Ferdinand_Max.html

Some good pics are to find in this thread from the Marineforum; post nr 41
http://forum-marinearchiv.de/smf/index.php/topic,1542.30.html
I hope this helps you to go on.
Regards
Gerhard

PS.: Maybe ANDREA has a bit more??

Thans Gerhard for the two useful web sites.

As we are beginning to veer off topic maybe any future comms on these topics should be direct?

Cheers...Bernie
