paddlewheel identification

help , ive bought a pre owned paddler as shown in another thread on this site , however im having problem putting the grub screws into the central bosses to hold the paddles onto the driveshaft . the wheels themselves are approx 70 mm in external diameter , and made from plastic , red for the "wheel" with 6 black blades , the central bosses are about 6mm dia with a 3mm bore . do any of the more knowledgable paddler modellers know which wheels are fitted please ? kev

Hi Kev,
they are to small to be 'Graupner' wheels, and your steamer looks very like the "Edwardian steamer" available in kit form back in the 70's early 80's in the UK.
From memory, right colours and size, as I had one back then.
Name of kit manufacturer escapes me at the moment - maybe 'PB 'something
Maybe someone else on the forum, can confirm/shoot me down.

yes ive already looked at graupner wheels , much larger the ones fitted to my boat have fixed blades as oposed to the feathering ones on the graupner wheels , ive now fitted a vision 380 ( 400 can ) brushed motor , running through some small brass gears that were "in the spares box " the motor is now geared down but ive not worked out its ratio , a mini servo has been set for the rudder control , next hurdle will be the battery and any ballast .kev

Would you model be like this one, it was made by PBM and labelled an Edwardian Paddle steamer. not very original, I've attached three photos of mine if that helps. To put the grub screws into the wheels I use a WERA 2054 MICRO PRECISION HEX SCREWDRIVER - 2.0mm which I bought from a local tool shop about £2.99 but you can get them on Ebay item number 350562579489 at £3.13 plus £0.98 postage.

The whole PM kit has been repackaged and is currently available from Forest Classics -http://www.forest-classics.co.uk/paddle_steamer.htm
 I'm in the process of trying to build one and have had great difficulty in keeping the Paddle Wheels aligned whilst constructing them.

thanks jelley baby , boat looks very much like yours . the shop local to my brother in law in portsmouth have managed to identify the model as being from a plan supplied through the hobbys .uk.com book which is able to supply the fittings kit and paddles for around 45 pounds ! ive used much smaller gear wheels than yours , but hoping that with the low speed motor it should be ok ( can always kepp the throttle down ! ) kev
