Hi all,
I live in South Wales and have always been a White funnel, Waverley and Balmoral fan. Worked on the pilot cutters at Barry for a while and have built a few model ships. An old paddler kit years ago called Hjelen or something similar which I converted to resemble the old Glen Gower, Ravenswood type ship.
Have just built a Glasgow paddle tug kit which is quite nice but have been working on a 1/48 scale Waverley using frames and planks. This one will hopefully be the biz but I've also wanted to build Bristol or Cardiff Queen but cannot get any plans so if not I'll have to do it myself somehow.
All in all a nice hobby. Also I have the Planet T5 2.4ghz rc system which works really well and the batteries last for ages. I don't think the range is quite that far but unless you use binoculars its good enough.
Thats all from me for now but I'll post some pics soon of Glasgow and the ultimate paddleduck Waverley.

R.G.Y. I'm sorry but I don't recognise the old girl in question but I would point out that Teignmouth is one of my wife and I's favourite places.
We have a touring caravan and frequentley stay at Gulliford Farm near Dawlish popping out to Teignmouth or sometimes walking the sea wall from the Warren to Dawlish and back.
Have now completed the stern on the Waverley from balsa wood coated on the outside in fibreglass resin and inside withe the same and matting.
Next thing is the shaft and paddles.
So which steamer is she then because I can't find my book on White Funnel by Bob Wall.

The answer is The GLEN USK. I built her in 2001-2 1/6th balsa covered in cider can plates.(No fiberglass) All up weight 8lbs including 5lbs steam plant. Keep the Waverly as light as you can. Still going strong. If you are in Teingmouth & there is a match on the Den bowling green ask for the captain. That's me, Captain of bowls club & model Glen Usk. Is it a model or a giant pigeon. Geoff

Hi Boatman,
Welcome to Paddleducks. It's nice to hear you are building the Waverley. I was surprised to hear the name 'Glen Gower' as I went on her as a child, living in Bristol back in the 50's.
I live up the road from you in Newport and have built her as well. I did use a 'Waverley models' hull and paddlewheels though. I scratch built the rest as I'd spent enough money getting the essential bits. Mind you, fitting her out with sound and lights cost a bit more in the end.
She has pride of place in my garage and folks always go her first. (must be the only ship they recognise.) Give us a call if you want to come around.
Cheers

Hi Ken,
Its Stan the organist from Barry. You used to fix the organ a b200 and a T202. Tho
se were the days. I'm going to try to upload the latest Waverley pics but she is needing some paddles at the mo. Glasgow is functioning quite well but I'm looking at illuminating the tug lights up the mast etc next.

The pics won't upload because they're too big.
They were taken on a Samsung Galaxy S fone.
Need to make them smaller somehow.

Hello boatman,
if you want a easy program to resize your pictures use this one : EasyResize
it's a free download and verry easy to use
open your pictures in a smaal window, do the same with your folder where the resize program is found and pull the picture you need on the program
