Glasgow Richmond Start of season sail - 2012

Visited the Glasgow Richmond Club's start of season sail at Richmond Park last weekend. A well run and well attended event with a huge amount and variety of models, on display and on the water,  sailing to a formal timed programme of events.

I have included Photobucket thumbnails of the Paddlers at the event and also some steam engines and launches which may be of interest to the numerous steam buffs on this forum. Be aware that photographs are 1200 x 900, the reason that I have gone for thumbnails as opposed to full size. I know from recent postings that some PDs are having trouble with the larger pictures, but I use these pictures for various purposes and the larger format is my preferred option.

nice show ,great water ,but a little to heavy on the battle ships(my opinion )
nevertheless it's always nice to meet with fellow builders i think

Is that Confederate blockade runner a simplified model of the 'Presto' or another subject?

As Gerald correctly says the GPTs (Grey Pointy Things) can be found on Photobucket, I concentrated in this post on items I thought would be of direct interest to the PD community. Glasgow Richmond Club are heavily into warship models but I personally thought that the show had variety and was fairly well balanced. It's all a matter of taste and preference. The Bombus is primarily a paddler man I think with an interest in vintage aircraft, nice build in the steam winch thread Bombus. I'm interested in paddlers but my major project for the past two years has been a scratch built model of the Japanese battleship Fuso. http://www.sfmbc.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=387.

Unfortunately I didn't record the name of the builder of the Blockade Runner but he did tell me that it is his interpretation of a Clyde built vessel of 1863, name unknown.

right spot on  I"m a paddler man
But ( there's always a but  ) my point of view isn't that narrow of course.
mather of fact , i really really did like the blockade runner
those sailing ships presented a nice view as well ( the captain and commander feeling  )
the thing with all those grey battleships is (and now i see some turrets coming my way  )
they all look the same for me
to each his own i say , and it's still better to have a grey one on the water than no boat/ship at all.
thnx for the compliment on my winch , it was my first attempt .

Hi All

Thanks for the info on the blockade runner Andy...it seems like it may be an interpretation of the 'Presto; but of course there were numerous other Clyde built blockade runners and I'm no expert.

I had missed the Photobucket link but have been there now and get your point on the profusion of 'pointy grey things'....as my key interest is ironclad warships I found them a bit omnipresent too.

Your 'Fuso' is truly impressive...your skill level is extremely high!!

My new project is the US (Webb, NY, 1863) built Italian ironclad 'Re d'Italia' and I'll put a few photos in the 'other ship type' section sometime.

I'm still trying to find plans for the HEIC Nemesis which I intend to be my next paddler.

Both ships look exciting projects and I will look forward to seeing progress. The Nemesis looks to me like a project that would have met with instant approval from the late great Stuart Badger.

If anyone had plans he would have been the man, or at least pointed you in the direction. Keep researching, you will have a unique model.
