Fall River Steamboat PRISCILLA c.1894

I recently read a blog about the Fall River Line steamboats and the possibly of those being built.

These are, indeed, great models to build -provided enough research, data and patience is available to those willing to endeavor this. I have built four of these vessels and the one that I truly enjoyed replicating was PRISCILLA.

There was limited room to build a 1/8 scale model, so I had to reduce the scale to 1:182 to give a model half the size of the proposed original. I have enclosed a photo of this sidewheeler.  She all wood construction, scratchbuilt and handpainted.

Looks very nice.......congratulations.

Your scale is a bit unusual even compared to my choice of 1:120 (I like to keep my models compact. It's also a multiple of 1:600 which I use for waterline wargaming models).

Did you choose your scale to get the hull to match a chosen length?

Thanks for the compliment on PRISCILLA and the query about the scale of that piece.

I usually work in those scales that are established. However, on occasion, I like to make collections of work with unusual scales so that the work becomes a signature piece apart from the 'family'. This is what I've done with the Fall River Line steamboats.  The fleet is done at 1:182 scale which make them most attractive.

Hi Rex

I now have visited your blogsite and looked at all the marvelous models you have made...outstanding!

Having recently completed an R/C model of the 'Josie Olsen'  from plans available on the Paddleducks site I was immediately struck by the similarities to the 'Nantucket' in particular. I hope you will take it as a compliment if I enhance my model by adding some super-detailing based on your photo.

Whilst nowhere near your standard of workmanship you can see my puny effort in the galleries section.

By all means, use what you feel will help with your building.

I just viewed your model. Don't feel overwhelmed by my skills. This didn't come 'overnight'. It took years to develop. However, relative to your model I enjoyed seeing it and am appreciative of you sharing it with me.
