NYFD Fireboat New Yorker
« on: June 01, 2011, 05:05:09 AM »
I stumbled across a line drawing for the fireboat New Yorker in an on-line version of Howell's "Steam Vessels and Marine Engines" and was fascinated by it because it looks like they used two props on one shaft, one that was steerable in place of a rudder.  I'm working on a set of drawings that I'm making from the drawing in that book.  Other than a couple of videos made from original Edison film clips, and one or two postcards, I have not been able to locate any other drawings or pictures of this vessel.  This is one of those projects that I'd really like to build someday, after I've built the boiler, or boilers if I decide to use steam powered water pumps, the engines and everything else that's required.  I've Googled the builder and the designer and haven't come up with anything usable, does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Don
