Glasgow Kit
« on: May 24, 2011, 04:34:36 PM »
:)I eventually received the Graupner Glasgow kit with the paddle wheels and most of the parts kit, a couple of bits missing.  I would appreciate any tips or things to look for when building this kit.  I still have not decided wether or not to drive the paddle wheels independently.  It took me numerous emails and three phone calls to Westbourne Models over a period of a month. Once posted it only took 5 days to get to Australia.  At least it's here now and I can get stuck into the build and maybe change my picture from my one metre yacht...

Hi,
Glad to hear your trial and tribulations of delivery are now past and good luck with the build.

here was my attempt at the Glasgow, i decided to stick with single drive and not independent.  She has a good turning circle as the rudder has a 60 degree swing each way. i did change the drive from geared to belt, see last page.

Thanks PeeWee; all the pics of your build are great, especially the paddle boxes. Hopefully I will not make many stuff ups with mine.  This is only my second attempt at boat building, the first being a Graupner Micro Magic which is a lot simpler kit.

I am slowly getting through the build of the Glasgow, like PeeWee my rudder was too high but I spaced the bottom pivot a couple of mil down.  I have now come to another problem in that the kit says that there should be 4 paddle deck supports, I assumed that the 4 extruded supports that were supplied were to be glued together making only 2 supports.  Anyone know if this is correct?  I also had to enlarge the deck cutouts where the paddle wheel bearings (brass tubes) goes through the hull as they did not match up with the hull.  Other than that everything is going well.

Good to hear progress is moving along. on the supports front i did not glue them together thereby 4 vac forms for 4 supports.

Ive got two Glasgows. Please use when fitting the deck a strong glue
like Stablit. Nothing is worse than having parts come loose that are
hard to restick owing to access. Also as mentioned before put a drop
of superglue on the black rivets holding the paddle wheels together.
Sadly they can come out if not glued. Ive not been able to buy spares. Please also sand the hull and primer to ensure paint stays
on.John.
