« on: March 18, 2011, 01:00:01 PM »
Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea will be held on Sun.20.3.
See www.barwonheads.net
A feature is a paddleduck event, but without mechanical side wheels.
The website has lots of photos of the 2010 event, but the ducks are on tables and grass, not in the water.

The Barwon River Duck Race Conditions Of Adoption and race rules.
Your newly adopted duck must be displayed regularly in a highly visible location, thus helping us to promote our festival, while making aIl your friends and neighbours extremely jealous.
Although no feeding is required regular swims are essential for both fitness and grooming purposes. Please ensure the duck is kept out of prolonged exposure to the sun, as this can damage its beautiful colour and plumage.
Keep your duck safe from hungry domestic animals and children with sharp teeth. Any duck showing signs of physical abuse may be refused race entry, and could even result in a penalty for the guardian.
Any duck showing signs of tampering with or modification (performance enhancing, genetic or otherwise) may be refused entry. This includes any form of colouring in with texts pens, tattooing and body piercing.
Custodians must present their adopted duck at the race committees collection sites before 2.30pm on Sunday the 20th of March 2011.
All ducks must undergo a complete physical examination before race entry is allowed. The committee also reserves the right to operate a system of random drug screening (this is held on ducks only).
At 3.00pm on Sunday March 20th 201 1 aII ducks entered in this race will be released in a random manner into the Barwon River from Ozone Street Jetty. The winner will be the first duck, in the judge's decision, to reach the 'line' Barwon Heads bridge. If due to conditions, no duck has reached this mark, the duck leading after 40 minutes swimming time, will be declared the winner.
Race stewards will act as boundary umpires along the riverbank and any duck deemed to have beached would be officially re-entered into the race, in the similar, fair manner of a football umpire.
The judges decision, on the day, will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
ln' the event of landing by U.F.O's or simply really bad weather, the judges may decide to cancel the race. If so the winner will be decided by a ''pluck-a-duck'' competition, controlled by the judges, involving aII d'ucks on the river bank. Again the decision of the judges will be final.
DUCKS WILL BE COLLECTED AT THE FESTIVAL INFORMATION  BOOTH UP UNTIL 2.30PM SUNDAY 20th MARCH 2011
Ducks set to dive for festival
The mass of yellow ducks will be back diving from the Ozone Road Jetty and racing towards the brand new Barwon Heads bridge in March as part of the 2011 Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea.
On over the weekend of March 19-20, organisers are hoping for a bigger event than the last years’ 10th anniversary.
Ducks will go on sale at the Barwon Heads Community Market on Saturday January 29 and will be for sale for just $10 each with all proceeds going towards keeping the festival a free family event.
More than one thousand ducks were sold last year with hopes that figure will rise with almost $5000 worth of prizes on offer.
The 2011 Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea promises a great weekend for all the family.
With a focus on celebrating arts and the environment, the festival promises a range of events including an art show, the Sea Change quilters exhibition, live music, food, environmental displays, craft and produce as well as the famous duck race.
Festival president Rick Web said “with a decade of festivals under our belt this year we are going all-out this year to make this Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea the best ever”.
The big day of the festival is Sunday March 21 and will include tai chi on the beach, Arts Alfresco featuring local artists, a produce and craft market, Kids Zone including an animal farm, jumping castle and face painting, camel rides on the beach, sustainable living stalls, food stalls, music on two stages and of course the duck race.
Ducks will be dropped from the Ozone Jetty at 3.00pm and the owner of the duck that arrives first at the jetty wins a $2500 travel voucher.
Ducks will be on sale, every weekend in the main street until the festival as well as from selected businesses like the pharmacy and post office.
Look out for the “DUCKS ON SALE HERE” signs around town.

Congratulations to all  prize winners and thank-you to all the 1,044 people who bought a duck to the 2010  race (a new record).
Your continued support helps to keep the Festival of the Sea a FREE community event.

I am desperately finishing Jan.11 RNV before heading to Renmark, and will be ducking this event.
