Vic Smeed - Sad Loss
« on: January 06, 2011, 08:58:23 PM »
Most model makers will remember Vic Smeed, he designed and built many models (mainly aircraft) and his plans are still sold by myhobbystore.
He designed some paddlers including Royal Falcon.

Vic died in his 90's - a sad loss to model boating.

Tony.

THIS IS A REAL SHOCK- i THOUGHT VIC WOULD GO ON FOREVER. Vic Smeed was always my modelmaking hero. He di more for model building than any other person in the world. His designs run into hundreds- all of which were very practical and easy to build and whats more, THEY WORKED. He belongs to the golden age of model building- the 50s and 60s but I remember his first published article ( I think in a 1947 Aeromodeler on building and flying waterplanes). Sadly in the last 12 months we have lost the doyen of modelmaking- Phil Smith, Ron moulton, David Boddington and now the master of them all, Vic Smeed. We all owe Vic a big thank you for his calm authorative books and articles spanning over 60 years. Thanks Vic, may all your wakes be straight and your wings be strong. Walter Snoiwdon.
Blessed are the "cracked" -for they let in the light for the rest of us.

To loose both my hero's within six months, a very sad loss.
Phil Smith designed and produced my first aircraft kit, the Veron Sopwith Tri-plane. Vic Smeed, my first hobby mag 'Model Maker' and model related books, 'Boat Modelling'. The first of many.
Giants among modellers of all disciplines.
