Hello, I'm semiretired and live in Peterborough, Ontario.  I've been a model boat enthusiast for over 40 years.  For the last ten years I've been working on a steam-powered model of a W.W.2 corvette.  The model is scratch built and I've built a Stuart double 10 engine and a centre-flue boiler to power it.  Now I have more time to work on it, I hope to get it steaming next summer. 

If I ever finish this one, I'm thinking of starting on a Yukon river sternwheeler.  I expect Paddleducks will be a great resource for information.

Welcome to Paddleducks Gord, nice to have you with us....

The corvette must be a fair old size to take such a large engine!

Hopefully we can help when you get round to the sternwheeler, though I have to admit I know very little about the Yukon boats myself. But I'm sure some of our members from Canada/USA will be able to give more info when the time comes.

We're only a small group, but I think you'll find we are a friendly bunch once you get to know us...

Peterborough is famous for more than just housing our newest member.
It has a ship lift.  IIRC the centenary was about 5 years ago.
One of the principles enunciated by Archimedes: it would be quite possible for a model Yukon to balance a full-size original for the raising/lowering.
IIRC there is a commercial cruising boat which goes through the lift, but not over the ship railway at the western end of the canal.  However, it is not a paddler.

Welcome from one Peterborough resident to another.  though mine in in Cambridgeshire UK.  I have to confess that i still have a postcard of the Lock from my visit to your peterborough back in the 80's

Its nice to know there are more steam boaters in the area.
I don't know if it is still true but Peterborough used to hold the distinction of the most Beer consumed per person than any other Regan in Canada. The one local Beer Store held the record for the most beer sold in Ontario for about five years straight back in the 70s. I must confess that I had bought a few of them.
