Shucks!
« on: October 22, 2010, 03:46:43 AM »
Guess what arrived in the post today?

A nice letter from The Chief Constable of Lothian and Borders Police, with a notice of intended prosecution for exceeding the speed limit on the A1 motorway :( 70mph in a 60mph zone.....

So after 33 years of driving without a single offence on my licence here's the first, a minimum of a £60 fine and 3 points on my licence... Bummer!

Eddy,

I know the feeling well, having experienced the same a few years ago.

I had been in Aberdeen for a week on a First Aid course, and we finished just after lunch on the Friday.

It was a beautiful sunny day as I headed south, and the road was virtually deserted. I had a great run home, and felt that all was well with the world.

That feeling changed a week or so later, when I received my missive from the constabulary in the Montrose area!

Apparently, in my 'happy zone', I had been doing 83mph in a 70 area.

As you say, 'bummer'.

I have been paranoid ever since about cameras and police cars.

With the amount of speed cameras that are around nowadays I suppose it was only a question of time before I got caught - Not that I drive that quickly, but it's so easy to miss them and accidentally get knabbed!

Anyway, it's not the end of the world - Damned annoying yes, but there are worse things in life!

Regards

:a102 ...a few years ago I opened a letter from the Sydney Airport Corporation with an enclosed $100 fine for my vehicle ADN-34P being illegally parked in a no standing zone @ Mascot airport on XX/YY/ZZ ...
Checked my day book which confirmed I attended appointments at the Port Kembla steel works that day
Spoke with the SAC....& they said NO....vehicle ADN-34P is a silver Nissan 2 door sports car illegally parked @ Mascot on  XX/YY/ZZ ....******* this could not be disputed & if the fine is not paid ...Court proceedings will be instigated
Thinking to my self......something is not KOSHA here & explained to the helpful SAC employee that vehicle ADN-34P is actually a white Mitsubishi 4 door station wagon
The helpful SAC employee stated that this was impossible as vehicle ADN-34P is a silver Nissan 2 door sports car, the SAC have photographic evidence of the parking infringement & the fine must be paid or ...Court proceedings will be instigated
So thinking a more intelligent resolution was to photocopy my NSW Motor Transport registration form for ADN-34P which confirms it was actually a white Mitsubishi 4 door station wagon
Then complete a stat dec…….get a local Police officer to sign & confirm that the photo copy of my NSW Motor Transport registration form for ADN-34P is a true copy without alteration……..
So then I post all of this off to the Sydney Airport Corporation with a two page explanatory letter in an Australia Post registered envelope
A few weeks later I receive a Summons to appear in the local Wollongong Court for failure to pay a duly authorised parking fine
I did not appear or attend Court, however provided the Clerk of the Court with photocopies of all of the documents
About a month later I received a lovely letter from those lovely SAC people stating
“we acknowledge your communications dated jj/hh/pp & on this basis will rescind your illegally parked in a no standing zone @ Mascot airport on XX/YY/ZZ ...fine for this once only, however if your vehicle ADN-34P …a silver Nissan 2 door sports car is again found illegally parked @ …………..Dont you just love them :c002'....Derek

Hello all, well Derek you made me laugh there. Thanks for the opportunity to have a  a belly laugh, it has lightened my mood.

Eddy, wasn't your co-driver keeping an eye out for you? Oh, he was probably asleep by that point in the journey.  :o

cheers

Jim

I'm not sure what my co-pilot was doing Jim, and I was sure I was within the limit at every camera - But hey ho, that's the way it goes.... I suppose after 33 years of having a clean licence I can handle it?

If I keep at the same rate, I'll be 86 yrs old before I get my next one!  :hehe

Well what can I say guys?

Both Andrew Gray and Joe Hardy, who were with me at the funeral, sent me £20 each to help with the cost of the speeding fine. There really wasn't any need to do it.... True friends indeed!

Thanks guys!

A relative of mine who was on a police force did a criminal and drivers license check on me at one time and reported back that I had "30 years of undetected crime".
So I hope you have the same for the next 33 years by then we will probably have to rely on battery powered wheel chairs.

Gerald.
