Another ID needed
« on: August 07, 2010, 02:27:12 AM »
After all the excellent advice regarding my previous query - John H Amos - I've discovered another photo taken at the same time. It looks like a paddler but last night's Skype crowd were unable to help with the ID. Anyone any clues?

That's the Tattershall Castle, 1934-vintage Humber ferry paddle steamer now a floating pub in London.  She has been towed from her London berth twice now for drydocking and refit, the first was in the early 1990's in Chatham (if I remember correctly), and the second was in 2004 in Great Yarmouth.  This photo was apparently taken during the first refit.

Many thanks for that info. It must have been during the first re-fit as it was taken at Chatham. You've done well - much better than Eddy & co on Skype last night  :)

Hi PD's ....& hullo Andrew........when I look at the TC in at Chatham dock....why do I ask are all dockyard cranes the same?....like we had the same ones here 20,000km away at Cockatoo dockyard in Sydney

:shoot ....then I realised they were probably built in the same UK crane factory many years ago & deported to OZ as some form of punishment  :c017 ......Derek

I remember when they first extended the wheelhouse like that, previously they just had an awning on the port side...
this is how it looked when returned to London...
